No Sequel for Oblivion Planned – Entirely New Game in the Works

Surprisingly, Bethesda says that they are NOT planning a sequel to Oblivion – one of the most successful RPGs in the past decade.Oblivion or The Elder Scrolls IV, itself a sequel to The Elder Scrolls III – Morrowind may not be getting a sequel, according to Kat Bailey at 1up. This is a very strange development, considering the tremendous success of the game. Oblivion is one, if not the best-selling RPG of all time. It has sold millions of copies on multiple platforms and helped bring the RPG niche into the mainstream in a big way.
Apparently Todd Howard, Bethesda’s game director spilled the beans at QuakeCon 2009, saying that the developer is working on its next big game but that there are no plans for another Elder Scrolls game.
Also intriguing from the statement is the mysterious new game from Bethesda. The developer has been keeping busy for a while now pushing out add-ons for Fallout 3, but now it seems that they have something completely new in the pipeline. Nothing is official about this game yet, but knowing Bethesda it’s probably another huge PC RPG to look forward to.
