Ascaron, the German RPG game studio went bankrupt during development of Sacred 3 and an expansion for Sacred 2, but now they’re back on track and have assembled a new developer team by the name Gaming Minds.

The (also German) publisher Kalypso Media purchased the leftovers of Ascaron, and  15 of the team members from Ascaron were able to found Gaming Minds. Right now they are apparently set to work on Patrician 3.

On the other hand, what will happen will Sacred 3 and the Sacred 2 expansion is still unclear. It appears that the rights to the Sacred games are still somehow tied to the Ascaron name, but hopefully for Sacred fans, they will eventually be able to continue where they left off.
