Gamers hoping for a nice new ‘Hobbit’ game to go with the upcoming movie release will be disappointed to learn that – surprisingly – no such game is planned. Might be for the best, considering how many of these movie-franchise games turn out.

If you were hoping to get to toddle around as Bilbo Baggins and taunt the nasty dragon Smaug, you will have to wait a little longer. It’s quite surprising, as most publishers are usually more than willing to cash in on the name of a blockbuster movie, especially one based on Tolkien’s The Hobbit.

The Lord of the Rings movies certainly got their share of games – some pretty good and some… not so good. However Hobbit director Del Toro tells MTV multiplayer that it’s “too ambitious to tackle that along with ‘The Hobbit’ – we have such tight release dates”
